====== VPN ====== A virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network across a public network and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network. The benefits of a VPN include increases in functionality, security, and management of the private network. It provides access to resources inaccessible on the public network and is typically used for telecommuting workers. Encryption is common, although not an inherent part of a VPN connection. --- //Wikipedia 2022/01/07 16:40// To increase security, the cluster is only accessible via a VPN provided by RU. The VPN is hosted at vpn.ru.is, and can be navigated to from any anyConnect compliant VPN client software. To log onto it you need to use your sleep.ru.is login credentials, which were provided to you by the Cluster Management Team. The VPN is accessed differently depending on the OS you are running. The correct way to use your username to log into the VPN, assuming a user called aardvark, is to use aardvark@sleep.ru.is as the username, and the password normally. ==== Windows ==== The Sleep Revolution VPN can be accessed using for example Openconnect. Step-by-step instructions can be found here. Alternatively, there is the cisco anyconnect client, which is however proprietary. A step-by-step guide to setting up and configuring OpenConnect for Windows is available here. ==== Ubuntu ==== Similarly to windows, Openconnect can be used to connect to the VPN, both with a command-line-tool and a graphical user interface. ==== MACos ====
